Self-Assembling Robotic Architecture

INTRODUCTION

Designers, researchers, and makers working at the intersection of material innovation, modular architecture, and environmental engagement. At the heart of our practice lie two interconnected projects: VIDA and SARA – Self-Actuating Robotic Architecture.
SARA develops deployable surface systems based on auxetic geometries and topologically interlocking designs, enabling structures that can fold, expand, and adapt dynamically under load. Inspired by bionics and origami engineering, these ultra-lightweight systems provide kinetic skin solutions for satellite debris mitigation, propulsion augmentation, and modular space architecture. SARA bridges the gap between digital design and physical fabrication, offering scalable materials for space and Earth-based infrastructures.

Unique Selling Points

  • Deployable & Adaptive
Dynamically reconfigures in orbit or on-ground to meet variable mission demands.
  • Low Tech & Easy Maintenance
Designed for robust operation in extreme environments with minimal mechanical complexity and straightforward upkeep.
  • Optimized Logistics & Hierarchical Assembly
Components ship as flat-packed elements, enabling highly efficient transport and stowage; assembled progressively into modules, lattices, and full structures.
  • Digital Configurator
Licensed parametric blueprints enable on-demand production via additive or subtractive methods, supporting distributed manufacturing and customization.
